SET e Trinta Meeting 2012 - April 16 - Monday
Today is the first day of the meeting of the SET e Trinta Meeting 2012. A rather representative number of Brazilians came to the Las Vegas Convention Center, early in the morning, to take their coffee with friends, waiting for the opening of the event.
At 07:30, was opened the session of lectures by the coordinators. Fernando Ferreira thanked the presence of all participants and sponsors and then went over to the SET President, Nakonechnyj Liliana, who welcomed to the participants and declared open the lecture series of SET e Trinta 2012. The coordination of this first meeting was in charge of Fernando Ferreira (SET / RBSTV) and Vanessa Lima (SET / Hitachi-Linear).

The first speaker, Nilton Guedes, DataDirect Networks and AD Digital, initiated the work talking about ": DATA CONSOLIDATION TO POTENTIATE THE NEXT WORKFLOW MEDIA GENERATION: ANY CONTENT, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME."
He talked about the explosion that is currently happening in the media (newspapers, magazines, TV and Radio) with regard to digital content and also about the challenges of workflows fragmented and inefficient. The content generation is growing exponentially through the digitization of film and video as well as by the public that today produces it. This convergence of broadcast, production and Internet presents an opportunity to the media and entertainment organizations. From the acquisition of content to the distribution, it requires an orchestration of a fully automated process. How can the media organizations address these challenges and capitalize on new opportunities? The solution to these problems depends on a scalable data storage, consolidated and high performance with reasonable technology.

Then it was time for Silvino Almeida, Tektronix, talk about " QUALITY ASSURANCE AND COMPATIBILITY FILES SYSTEMS Tapeless, MAM, VOD and OTT”. Silvino said that the explosion of formats and of video files harms their quality and that the quality control of human, for being too subjective, end up not being consistent. The characteristic of tapeless environment is the exponential increase on the number of files, with intense manipulation and transcoding for different purposes in an automated process with minimal human intervention. The challenge is "how to keep safe and in accordance, some thousands of injected files in increasingly complex networks, ensuring their reliability and avoiding rework costs and stress for customers?" He presented how a test system of files suitable within a system tapeless can avoid the storage of defective material and which does not play, minimizing rework costs and avoiding the stress of customers. The equipment presented automatically checks the exchange of content, the quality of the video and audio in the files, metadata and auxiliary data.
Then, Jurandir Pitsh (SES Vice President Market Development) spoke about The Ka BAND – BROADCASTING APPLICATIONS IN AND CONTENT DISTRIBUTION AND BRAZILIAN REALITY . Brazilian broadcasters, for many years, use the C-band satellites for the distribution, contribution and events in Brazil and probably will continue to use it for many years thanks to the robustness of the transmission (little affected by rains) and by the investments already made. But with the appearance of Ka-band, its broadband characteristics and cost advantages can, and must be exploited for applications in broadcasting and content distribution. In this presentation was introduced the technology, demonstrated the cost advantages, challenges and opportunities and convergence with the broadband. It was also cited the availability of this band in Brazil planned for next year and aspects of its regulation.
Next lecture, Michel Proulx of Miranda Technologies, spoke about "TODAYS MODERN TV BROADCAST FACILITY: FILE BASED, MULTI-FORMAT AND MULTI-PLATFORM”.
He detached that one of the most important trends that affects the television around the world is the growing desire of our viewers consume television content "on demand" in a wide variety of devices and platforms. Despite the traditional linear channels which distribute content on a fixed schedule, continue to be made available in almost all forms, suddenly the delivery of content as files to a growing number of platforms "on demand" has become a priority and a big operational challenge to stations. Among the most challenging delivery "on demand" is the conversion of daily content of linear channels, in such a manner as this content can be consumed as a "catch up TV", on several days of the original view.
In this presentation, Michel showed the continuing evolution of TV consumption patterns and outlined the problems and opportunities suddenly faced by broadcasters who are constantly confronted with requests to provide content for new platforms "on demand". The focus of the presentation was in the workflows areas based on file, programed on-demand, ad insertion, and metadata. Special emphasis was placed on the role that the brand of the channel (graphics) need to launch in a context "on demand".
The presentation focused on the real need to find ways to mix the workflows and operations of traditional and linear TV and demand content, in such a manner as the broadcasters prepare for their dual role in the future for attending the reproduction of a linear channel and act as editor-demand content.

Ending the cycle of lectures of the day, Tobias Kronenwett of Lawo Line UP and spoke on the theme " LOUDNESS IN PRODUCTION AND BROADCAST INTRODUCTION TO ITU-R BS.1770 AND EBU R128
The theme of this presentation was the loudness. What is loudness and why is it important to understand the differences of measures level eml PPM and VU meter Tobias presented a general definition of loudness, how the standards of the ITU, EBU and ATSC are interrelated and why it is important during the production to focus on loudness. At the presentation were shown examples of how engineering can deal with the topic loudness and how new standards for measuring loudness make practical mixes more creatives than the PPM.

Finished the lectures, the moderator requested to Mr Cezar Alvarez, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Communications that he pronounced some words about the SET e Trinta that he has just watch.

There was also traditional and expected draw of valuable gifts offered by the sponsors of the SET.

LECTURES OF BRAZILIANS VALDEREZ DE ALMEIDA DONZELLI AND GUNNAR BEDICKS IN NABSHOW 2012
Tomorrow, Tuesday, 17th, from 3:00 to 3:30 am in S228 Room, our Brazilian friends Valderez de Almeida Donzelli, engineer (Mackenzie DTV Lab and Adthec) and Gunnar Bedicks also an engineer (Mackenzie DTV Lab), will be ministering to their lectures about "Elliptical Polarization: Influences on the Performance of Digital TV coverage."
The implementation of the digital TV broadcasting adds the possibility of mobile and portable receiving, where the polarization type of the transmit antenna is one of the variables in the transmission system design. The polarization most often used by TV stations is horizontal, but it may not be suitable for mobile and portable receivers, since their antennas operate at different positions, ie, horizontal, vertical or oblique, causing a reduction in the level signal reception. This problem is known and expected by broadcasting engineers, but it remains an unsolved problem, which motivates studies and research of professionals and manufacturers to focus on optimizing the DTV station. The aim of this paper is to present a comparison of the results obtained with different configurations of transmission antennas with horizontal polarization, vertical and elliptical in different proportions to the vertical and horizontal components This survey was conducted in São Paulo between August 2009 and August 2011, based on UHF channel 60 and the data collected by means of theoretical simulations and practical tests for the reception of TV signal on field.
So do not forget to honor our countrymen watching their lectures.
